APVU History and Congresses (ประวัติสมาพันธ์มังสวิรัติเอเชียและการประชุม)

Background:Asian vegetarian societies have a long history as shown in IVU websites.

At the beginning, the Asian Vegetarian Union (AVU) came into existence when the 33rd World Vegetarian Congress was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in January 1999. At that time the European Vegetarian Union (EVU) and the Vegetarian Union of North America (VUNA) had already been established, however, there was no apex body for the Societies of Asia.

The First President elected was our late Mr. Jashu Shah of India. He was joined by Dr. Phichai Tovivich of Bangkok , Thailand as the Joint Secretary and Dr.Maitree Suttajit of Chiang Mai,Thailand as the Vice-President. After Mr. Jashu Shah (1999-2008), the second AVU President was Prof. Maitree Suttajit(2009-2012)   the third one is now Prof. Duo Li of Hangzhou , China (2012-2013) and the fourth is Dr. Susianto Tseng of Indonesia (2014- present). From the 6th APVC 2013, AVU was changed to  Asia Pacific  Vegetarian Union (APVU) and AVC to  Asia Pacific  Vegetarian Congress (APVC).
